Life in Bloom: Grow, gather and arrange seasonal flowers
My first book is available to pre-order now!
Fill your life with flowers.
Featuring 24 practical projects using locally grown flowers and seasonal mechanics, Life in Bloom is packed with over 250 never before seen images.
In Life in Bloom, I teach you everything you need to know about growing and arranging flowers at home – including which rules to follow, and which ones to break – in a bid to find your own style.
It has been two years in the making and I could not be prouder to finally share it with you.
The book will also be released in the States, and it is already available for pre-order there too. Seeing it appear on the websites of shops like Barnes & Noble and one of my favourite New York bookshops, McNally Jackson, has completely blown my mind.
From very early in my floristry career, writing a book has always been my biggest goal. From the first one I bought, Vintage Flowers by Vic Brotherson, to well-thumbed favourites like A Tree in the House by Annabelle Hickson, Handpicked by Ingrid Carozzi, and celebrating the launches of books by friends such as Wolves Lane Flower Company and Milli Proust, I have always been inspired by the idea of creating something lasting.
I never really thought it would happen. In all honesty, my plan was to grow my Instagram following to a point where someone might get in touch and offer me a deal, but it didn’t quite work like that!
Instead, two years ago I decided to go after it and make it happen. I googled how to write a lifestyle book, found a rough template and started shaping an idea. It included a bit about me and my business, three sample chapters showing how I imagined the structure, and lots and lots of pictures. I managed to get an agent who then pitched it out, and about six months later I signed a book deal with Frances Lincoln, part of Quarto Books.
As someone who posts online multiple times a week and has become used to the fleeting nature of that kind of work, where things live for a few days before the algorithm buries them, it has been amazing to create something over a long period of time. I spent a year writing and photographing through the seasons to build a collection of 24 projects using sustainable mechanics and with a focus on locally grown flowers.
The greatest pleasure has been creating something I can actually hold, something tactile and real that will live on a shelf and not just disappear into the digital ether.
The team at Frances Lincoln & Quarto have been incredible, so collaborative and full of ideas, and I hope you love what we have made. Life in Bloom follows the seasons, introducing you to my must-have flowers from each one, with guides on growing, gathering and arranging them to fill your home with flowers.
Thank you so much for your support. Your likes, comments and shares have helped me reach this point, and so have all of you who have come to workshops, demos, or bought from the webshop. Every bit of it has helped me keep growing this business, one that I love and get so much pleasure from.
